Afghan rugs share some similarities with other Oriental rugs. Part of the reason for this is the weavers of Afghanistan were among refugees and designs have transferred across regions. The history of the Afghan Rugs is based on the needs of nomads and designs and techniques vary by tribe. The uniqueness of Afghan rugs comes from quality wool, dyeing, washing and exquisite finishing techniques. Only master weavers have the expertise to weave and finish these rugs, with a specialty in an antique finished look.
Sadly, traditional hand weaving skills and heritage are being left behind in developing nations, making these beautiful rugs an appreciating asset you can hand down to generations of your loved ones.

If you spill food or liquid on the rug, clean it immediately. This will help in preventing the stain from setting in. Remember, once the stain sets in, it becomes more difficult to remove and professional cleaning may be required. Never rub a spill, as it forces the spill deeper into the rug. Always, blot with a clean white cloth. Removing as much moisture from the spill as possible by blotting with a clean, absorbent cloth or paper towel as a first measure.
If the stain is still visible after blotting as above, use lukewarm water containing a mild wool cleaning liquid to remove any leftover stains. If you’re unsure of the cleaning agent, test it on an area which may not be noticed, or is unseen. Please be aware; some carpet cleaning agents have been known to be too harsh on rugs and may leave a stain or change the texture of the fibre once dried.
